The color of glass(house)

It was a gorgeous warm sunny day - perfect for wandering in the Gardens. One tends to think of winter as being bare and monochrome - not so in the Friends glasshouses.

Reticulated water was installed in the St Kilda Botanical Gardens at the end of the 19th century.  Since then, other than repairs and the odd diversion, there has been little done with irrigation in the Gardens.

Until now!

City of Port Phillip has awarded a contract to Planned Irrigation Pty Ltd to undertake irrigation renewal works in the Gardens.  Planned Irrigation has had extensive experience in similar gardens, including the Royal Melbourne Botanical Gardens. (Good news!)

Works are due to commence at the start of August and will take approximately six months to complete.  Council should have signs on site next week and information will be loaded on the the CoPP website soon.

The works will save water and be able to be connected to non-potable water in the future.  So, Council is looking to water-proof the Gardens for the next century - a great move.
