An amazingly generous householder in Middle Park donated 14 tonnes of palm and two possums to the St Kilda Botanical Gardens today. Apparently it took all day yesterday and two large cranes to remove the tree, and today it took a crane, half a dozen men, and four hours to get the tree into its new home.
How lucky are we? Now the centre bed has four palms again.
The Friends of the St Kilda Botanic Gardens Inc was established to sustain the bond between the St Kilda Botanical Gardens and surrounding community. Projects include maintenance and restoration of these heritage gardens by encouraging community members to become involved in the gardens and participate in activities including hands-on gardening, social events, skills building, fund-raising and advocacy.
On 16 November the Friends will celebrate the anniversary of these Gardens with a community picnic.
